HISTORY

The State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" was found in 1965 as a leading USSR developer of the automated diagnosis and test systems of specific aviation engineering, and now it is one of the leading designers of component parts of the aviation and antitank armament systems in Ukraine.

The enterprise has developed and launched into production over 40 types of the complex science intensive devices, including the automated and automatic control and diagnosis systems for the aircraft destruction weapon, electric control surface actuators, other high-precision weapon systems and units and also engineering processes test and control systems in industry, complex medical equipment and consumer goods. The output, developed by the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch", is successfully used in Ukraine and many other countries all over the world.

Basic developments of the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch":

1965 - Bureau has developed and launched into production PPP-3CÌ mobile pre-launch preparation station (mounted on the UAZ truck chassis) with manual remote control system of the air missiles and PPP -3SAÌ mobile pre-launch preparation station with automatic missile control system as a basic one for creation of the further automatic missile control systems for Air Forces and Navy.

1965 - 1969 - Bureau has developed and launched into production SAK-46 - automatic control system designed for the air missiles testing and AKIPS-80 automatic check-out test mobile station designed for anti-submarine missiles testing. The above-mentioned developments have been recognized by the State commissions as the first automatic testing systems in the USSR.

1968 - 1972 - Bureau has developed and launched into production the "Ingul" system (mounted on the GAS-66 truck chassis) designed for pre-launch preparation for operation and maintenance of 9 types of aircraft missiles.

1968 - 1977 - the automatic check-out test mobile stations have been developed and launched into production:

  •   AKIPS-125 for submarine missiles testing;

  •   AKIPS-4U for anti-submarine missiles testing;

  •   AKIPS-4U1 for torpedoes testing.

1969 - 1977 - the "Trubezh" system designed for pre-launch preparation for operation and maintenance of 12 types of aircraft missiles has been developed and launched into production.

1975 - 1977 - the aircraft current information recorder RIU has been created.

1977 - 1980 - the "Ingul-A" and "Trubezh-A" systems have module (container) equipment configuration and are designed for pre-launch preparation for operation and maintenance of 26 types of missiles and corrected air bombs ("Ingul"-A"), and 18 types of missiles ("Trubezh-A") have been developed and launched into production.

1978 - 1989 - the AKIPS-1 and AKIPS-3.2 automatic check-out test mobile stations for the air anti-submarine missiles testing have been developed and launched into production.

The above listed stations have been added to the armoury of the armed forces of the Soviet Union and other countries all over the world.

1981 - 1983 - the multifunctional system "Gurt", instead of the existing systems being in operation, such as "Ingul" and "Trubezh" has been developed and launched into production. This system is intended for pre-launch preparation of over 40 types of missiles and their various modifications.

In addition to the development of new materiel prototypes the activity of the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" is directly connected with modernization and assigned service life extension of the existing materiel.

According to joint decisions of Ministries of Ukraine the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" is defined as the leading enterprise in Ukraine on carrying-out, coordination and realization of works concerning extension of assigned service life and specified life of the air-to-air missiles, air-to-surface missiles, mine-torpedo weapons, "Ingul" and "Gurt" systems, and AKIPS stations.

Since 1979 the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" has been developing and manufacturing units of servo electric control surface actuators of the air-to-air and air-to-surface missile and torpedo control systems. More than ten control surface compartments with electric drivers have been developed for devices of different classes, which are highly competitive with the best world analogues by their performances.

 The unit of servo electric control surface actuators has been developed in 1986 for the R-77 air missile with lattice control surfaces. On the basis of compact commutatorless electric motors made in Ukraine during the last ten years, the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" has developed and manufactured a number of small-size units of servo electric control surface actuators for the tank guided missiles. These control surface actuators belong to the special digital control systems, which were developed and manufactured by the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" and provide missile and projectile accuracy. The missile control surface actuators are high-precision, immune to jamming and shock-resistant while firing from guns.

Since 2002 the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" has been supplying (instead the "Gurt" system) "Gurt-M", which assures:
- test and preparation for use of more than 50 various modifications of air missiles and corrected air bombs;
- final inspection of missiles on manufacturing plants;
- failure diagnosis while repairing missiles;
- forecasting of the technical state of missiles at extension of their service life.

Currently, the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" is the leading developer of the fundamentally new for Ukraine special military equipment. The complex program involving the new equipment development, worked out by the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch", and providing for participation of over 30 enterprises of Ukraine is approved. The devices to be developed in compliance with this programme are considered to be priority.

The State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" pays great attention to scientific and technological progress of the enterprise. Using its own funds "Luch" carries out works on development of modern devices, modernization of equipment and introduction of advanced technology.

The workers of the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" defended 2 Doctorate and 26 Ph.D. (Technology) theses, published over 1000 scientific articles, received more than 300 patents and certificates of authorship on innovations.

More than 100 workers of the enterprise are awarded with orders, medals and other honorary titles for success achieved in the field of new equipment development.

One of the latest developments made by the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" was awarded to the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology.

Today the State Kyiv Design Bureau "Luch" is introduced by:

  •   modern electronics;

  •   advanced technologies;

  •   competitive products;

  •   over 800 highly qualified specialists;

  •   development and production of new technology samples in the shortest possible time;
